10 January 2025: Mulingai is founded

Three months of evenings and weekends had become a working prototype. On 10 January 2025 it became a company: Mulingai ApS, founded in Denmark, with one conviction from the start: language should never keep anyone from the message. From our journal, published the day our site opened.

From our journal, published on 24 September 2025, the day mulingai.com opened for early access. The dates in this post are the days things actually happened.

From a project to a company

By the end of 2024 Mulingai was no longer an experiment. Three months of evenings and weekends, and a first line of code on 3 October, had become something that could listen to a speaker and carry the words into another language while the speaker was still talking.

A prototype can live on a laptop. A service that churches rely on every Sunday cannot. A church needs to know who is behind the thing it puts in front of its congregation: who answers when something does not work, who looks after what is spoken in the room, who sends the invoice and stands behind it. That needs a company.

On 10 January 2025, Mulingai ApS was founded in Denmark by David Christensen. An ApS is a Danish private limited company, the ordinary form for a company that intends to be around for a long time.

The name on the papers was the name the code had carried since its first afternoon. Nothing about the purpose changed either. The first notes in the code had been about churches, and the company was founded to serve them.

Language should never keep anyone from the message.

Shortly after, Beata Palomares joined as co-owner, taking on the company's operations. She had lived abroad herself and knew firsthand how not understanding the language can keep a person on the outside of a room.

Started in the church, built for everyone

From the beginning we wrote down what we wanted to be. Mulingai is a company built by Christians, and the conviction behind it is Mark 16:15: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." We want churches to share the gospel across every language in the room.

But the same problem lives far outside the church. A conference with a keynote in one language and an audience from many countries. A wedding where half the family speaks another language. A funeral where the grandchildren grew up abroad. A classroom, a town meeting. Wherever one person speaks and a room listens, someone is at risk of missing it. So we started with the church, and we built for everyone.

The months before launch

The year that followed was about turning a prototype into something a church could trust on a Sunday morning. In March 2025 a simple page went up at our address, with our logo and a promise that something was coming. Through the spring and summer the product grew: the speaker's side, the listener's side on the phone, the sign up, the account.

On 24 September 2025 the site opened its doors for early access. The commit that made it live was sent with a short prayer, and these journal notes went up the same day.

The next part of the story is about the name itself: why we are called Mulingai, and why a flame.
